Teeth Straightening At Home: Why It's Not For Everybody

Teeth Straightening At Home – Not For Everybody

Teeth straightening at home

Teeth straightening at home is great to correct crooked, gappy teeth. In 5 to 9 months, you can even improve your arch shape in a very discreet way. It’s not the solution for all orthodontic issues, though, and is really designed for cosmetic enhancement of your smile.

At Straight Teeth Direct™, we’re all about increasing your confidence by helping you get the beautiful, straighter smile you’ve always wanted.

This at-home, invisible aligner solution is  designed specifically for those who want to achieve their optimal teeth straightening results, not for those requiring comprehensive orthodontic treatment. The days of wearing painful fixed braces for years, just to enhance your natural beauty, are finally over! This cosmetic teeth straightening treatment provides improved, straighter smiles  in 6 months or longer, all while keeping the procedure convenient and comfortable.

Teeth straightening at home with clear aligners

Designed for minor to moderate dental alignment cases, these removable braces are virtually invisible. They are designed to fit snugly over your teeth and gently apply pressure, so that, over the course of a few months, they’re moved into that idealarch shape, which creates the space for your teeth to easily align into a straighter smile.

After submitting photos for your professional free e-consultation, an expert dentist will review your case and you’ll be able to order your impression kit if you are suitable. After sending off your dental moulds to the lab, the clinical team will create a 3D simulation of your predicted smile development and results, so you’ll be able to see what your new smile could look like.

Who is this at-home teeth straightening method for?

As clear aligners address the alignment of your front teeth, they’re ideal for people who want a train-track braces free way to straighten this particular area whilst saving time and money. Here’s what makes a great candidate for at-home teeth straightening with invisible aligners:

Who is at home teeth straightening for

Who is not suitable for teeth straightening at home?

1) Your case is too severe for teeth straightening at home

Clear aligners monitored remotely by a dentist is great for most cases, but some more acute ones will need different methods requiring in-office supervision. For example, your teeth might be too crowded or spaced for aligner therapy at home, or you may require a tooth to be pulled down, in which case one-to-one care in person would be best suited.   Though clear aligners are a great teledentistry model for many cases, there is a limit to the achievable type of movement. Teeth can be realigned and moved, but if a tooth needs a large vertical movement or an extreme rotation, it won’t be possible with the remote method. So it all depends on your goals, if you’re seeking absolute perfection or improvements.

2) You don’t have all natural or permanent teeth

Bridges, veneers, crowns, and implants can interfere with the process. People who have replacement teeth on the teeth they wish to move (the front ones) won’t be suitable for remote invisible aligners, as the above are permanent solutions designed to fit in with the current alignment of the teeth.  Straightening the teeth alone wouldn’t solve the problem, that’s why these cases are best treated in a dentist’s office.

Hence why we don’t recommend you try this on your grandma* ?

3) You are not dentally fit

Just like all orthodontic treatment, patients need to be dentally healthy. You cannot start any orthodontic procedures if you currently have unhealthy gums, active tooth decay, or severe bite issues (like a painful jaw or severe cross bite). To help ensure suitability, you will be asked to upload a copy of your recent  x-ray and share your BPE gum scores to confirm that you have no issues with your teeth or roots, and there is no presence of active gum disease, which could otherwise cause teeth to become loose over time.

For most other cases though, a teledentistry model works wonders. Check out our guest blogs to see just how effective it is! Your case will be supervised by a licensed dentist and each clear aligner  modelled on your mouth and adjusted to your specific dental needs.

Have you spent too long worrying about the crookedness of your teeth? Maybe it’s time to take the leap with cosmetic teeth straightening at home. Start your free e-consultation now to find out if it’s possible for you to transform your smile without spending a lot of time and money on conventional orthodontic treatment.
